Devlog with Donovan #3 - Spooky Season

Happy fall everyone!

You may have heard already, but we are so excited that we are going to tell you all again - Fish Truck Studios will be at GDEX in Columbus, OH! We will be presenting the Our Town Demo, which will be playable at our booth and online at Itch.io.

It still feels like a dream: us college graduates getting to see our dreams come to fruition. Not many of us get to show off at a convention. Our producers have helped extensively and graciously between the studio and the game–and with that, thank you.

We hope to see you at Booth A1016 from October 25th to 27th! Stop by and take home pieces of Our Town to commemorate this exciting event!

[Development Update]

As stated before, our team is under deep production. We’re working across multiple departments and working closely with our producers to get our demo published with our best work.

Much of the systems in developing the daily newspaper to resident profiles are undergoing continuous transformations and testing. It’s been a humbling and exciting experience getting to know UMG and the workings of UE5. They’re working consistently to not only design the visual layouts, but to develop workflows and learn more about the inner workings of UX/UI for the game.

Without spoiling too much, the game welcomes you to Our Town. One of our talented artists is working diligently to produce the game’s cutscenes. They are now being fully tendered and will be edited to match our preferred art style.

Point and Click programming is well underway! Our mini mystery and stakeout environments are interactable and working. This system works in tandem with our inventory, character relationships, and newspaper system. The evidence you find will help you learn more about the town and its hidden secrets, which is up to your interpretation and selected  written newspaper article.

Our dialogue is being implemented into Unreal as we speak! The narrative and dialogue has quickly outgrown our original system (they grow up so fast). Working with one of our producers, the team is developing a more efficient system to get everything transferred over. We’re seeing promising results but are prepared for a backup plan should something happen.

The town itself continues to look better and better! Environment design continues in giving each street, house, and construction site more props for personality. Sidewalks have also been recreated to be more modular.

This month will continue to be crazy as we all work tirelessly to bring everything together for our demo. We sure have a lot of fish in our truck’s cooler now, but our team isn’t done reeling in more! I'm sure we could fit a few more in there.

Fish Truck Studios, signing off!
